A balloon race long since run
Found this today while out geocaching, caught in the hedgerow in a farmer’s field just south of Cottered in Hertfordshire. The balloon (which had been yellow) was in shreds but still attached.
Observant readers will spot that the deadline to return the card to the competition organiser expired on August 1 – and, since they printed the instructions in French and German, it seems they are unlikely to be impressed with north Herts as a destination, which is just a short run up the A1(M) from Borehamwood. Especially since the distance, as the crow flies, is little more than 17 miles. The reward is clearly not destined to be mine.
The Hertfordshire Centre of the Caravan Club has a website which does mention its 50th birthday celebrations. On this page is a photo of the balloons being released, and the date on which it happened, June 20-22. Which makes me think for the umpteenth time that the internet really is a very cool thing indeed.
